As we’ve announced in the past, we’re hard at work on a complete redesign of the DMP Tool application. The new version aims to offer more best practice functionality, new requested features, and easier maintenance by our small team.
This page serves as our hub for all information related to the rebuild, including launch date information, progress updates, tutorials, and more. We’ll keep adding to it over time so that it’s your one-stop shop for the latest information on rebuild announcements.
Launch Date: TBD 2026

We don’t yet have a launch date for the rebuild, as we have more to build still and want to make sure we take the time to get it right. We expect to release sometime in the first half of 2026. Once we have a narrower range we’ll update this page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my account be transferred to the new tool?
Yes, we plan to transfer all accounts to the new tool automatically. You may need to reset your password the first time you log in.
Will the new tool be at dmptool.org or a new url?
The new tool will still be at dmptool.org
Will my plans, templates, guidance, and other content transfer to the new tool?
We plan to transfer all user content to the new tool, including templates and data management plans and guidance. Due to changes in the data structure, it is possible that some formatting could be lost or that some content could have issues transferring, especially if it was created a long time ago in the tool. We will have more details as we get closer about what changes, if any, to expect for your content in the tool.
Can I use the old website if I don’t like the new one?
Once the new tool is launched, it will be the only version of DMP Tool available. Keeping both active would require us to separate the data and manage two separate websites at once, which we don’t have the resource to do. We do plan to keep updating the tool over time, so please provide feedback post-launch about any issues you find that we can improve.
Why are you rebuilding the DMP Tool at all?
Our main reasons for the rebuild are to provide machine-actionable functionality to the entire DMP, update outdated technology for easier management, and improve the interface for creating best practice DMP templates. For more detail, see our announcement post.
Can I provide feedback on the new designs to make sure it works for me before it launches?
Yes please! We’ve done 4 rounds of user testing on the site already and plan for more. Sign up for our panel here to be considered for future feedback opportunities, both before and after launch.
Where can I get additional information?
We’ll add more information to this blog over time. You can sign up for our newsletter to make sure you’re notified of new updates. You can also email questions to dmptool@ucop.edu, though please note we won’t be able to answer every question about the transfer yet until the tool is closer to release.
